Senianske rybníky (PLA)

Location Senianske ponds implies a national nature reserve, a system of fish ponds and the surrounding meadows. It is one of the most important ornithological sites in Central Europe. It consists of a set of commercially used ponds National Wildlife Senne ponds. The area is an important nesting area for water and the water birds. Nest here, for example, Eurasian spoonbill, avocet Avocet, Egret and silvery, Marsh Harrier, Purple Heron. This "bird paradise" of international importance is located between the villages of Senne and Iňačovce geological depression of the so-called. "Senianske wetlands" at an altitude of 100-104 meters and covers an area of 1490 ha.

Bird paradise  - protected bird region 

Bird species richness of occurrence (incidence so far zanamenaný 145 kinds !, including 55 nesting and 25 kinds for hay or only the most important breeding sites in Slovakia) gave rise to the inclusion of this site between IBAs (IBA - Important Birds Areas) and in 1990 mezdi and Ramsar sites. Within the designation of Ramsar sites NNR Senne Ponds met the criteria for its inclusion among the unique wetlands that appear in it population of rare, endangered and critically endangered species (5 species worldwide and 53 species of endangered Europe-widen Senianske ponds regularly found substantial numbers of individuals of different species of aquatic birds indicating the importance of wetlands (eg. Grebe Gull, Red-necked Grebe, Great Cormorant, Purple Heron, Great Egret, Little Egret, Night Heron, Eurasian Spoonbill, Eurasian Bittern, Little Bittern, Chriašteľ water, avocet Avocet, Sisi Stilt, black-tailed godwit, redshank, ruff, black fisherman, fisherman mud, Fúzatka biarmicus, Bluethroat, Short-eared owl, marsh harrier).

National natural reservation 

Senne rybníky extend in eastern Slovakia and occupy k.ú. Iňačovce municipality in the district of Michalovce and cadastral municipality Blatná Polianka in district Sobrance, where is called. Senianske depression, one of the most important ornithological sites in Central Europe. In 1974 Senne fishponds were declared a national nature reserve under the then valid law on state protection of nature in order to protect rare biota and waterfowl on scientific research, cultural-educational and educational objectives with an area of 21.28 hectares. In terms of the current law on nature and landscape protection with effect from 1.1.1995 are provided Senne ponds National Nature Reserve (NNR), which is extremely valuable and important territory because of the presence of water and the water birds and a unique location for relaxing spring and autumn migration move. On the NNR Senne Ponds apply the strictest fifth level of protection and in the protection zone of the fourth level of protection.Todays bird locality contain:

  • surounding meadows 

Possibility of easy observation and learning attracts birds for hay increasingly ornithologists and nature lovers from all over Slovakia and from Europe. After building a pond system in Iňačovce consisting of 28 farm ponds aquaculture has become the dominant feature of the local economy. The main farmed fish species are carp, grass carp, silver carp, catfish, pike and others. In designated ponds come into their own and lovers of sports and recreational fishing.
